My Bedroom Has No Door

It will not be much for soundproofing, but put up a tension rod and find a sheet or outer shower curtain, or even a curtain that you like and hang it on the tension rod. We put a bathroom into our basement in the house we had in the eighties in a huge bedroom. Rather than put in an expensive door, we used a tension rod and part of a sheet as a door. We didn't put the shower in (all the drainage pipes, etc. were already in the floor), so we put a closet in that space and also used tension rods and the rest of the sheet instead of closet doors. It worked really well and was easy to care for, just slip them off and wash.
How thick are the walls? Maybe a pocket door? I have one in my master bathroom. If not I would at least put up a tension rod in the door frame and make a curtain for it from a pretty flat sheet or length of fabric that coordinates with your decor.

Lilly on Dec 04, 2017 Thank you! Great idea, however the inner walls are solid wood and part of the home main framework. I'm liking the tension rod and curtain that matches the décor.

You are so welcome! Looks like Nancy and I had the same thought at the same time! I did the tension rod on my office closet door with curtains purchased from Target. Love it to this day!

It's hard to tell if you have space for a sliding barn door on the inside of the bedroom, but they are often a beautiful feature for doors that don't need to be closed often.

Thank you for your response. I love the sliding door idea! The doorway is 30 inches and the inner bedroom wall is 31 inches. It would work, however the light switch would be behind the door along with the wall mirror. Should we consider doing the sliding door, we would have to look at moving the light switch, but that would be a stretch.
Sliding barn door or pocket door. The barn door would take less time, work and expense probably.
A pocket door would be ideal, but would be more pricey to install than a curtain rod. You might also consider saloon doors if the curtain idea doesn't appeal to you. Also consider accordion doors.
I would first see if I could put a real door on there, using a left hand set of hinges. Buy a door the same width as the doorway, or cut down a larger door to fit in the opening (this would require a solid door) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEd42dD9ihg Very odd it passed inspection without a door on the bedroom, acts as a fire break....is there an old door in the attic or basement?

Thanks for the info. on accordion doors. I noticed there is even different colors to choose from. That is a good option too.
A sliding door. Louvered doors that open in the center.

No no, louvers not good for privacy.
Maybe you could have a custom door done with little doors in it where the lights switch and mirror are, so you could access them when the door is open, but when you close it, you could cover those holes.
Make a screen with some pretty fabric on it. You would only need two frames, hinged in the middle. That way you could just fold it up when you don't have company, and still have your open door.

I'v seen nice heavy bi-folding doors. Sharon of Florence OR hand the best ideas, I think. Good luck.
Why not try fitting a door that opens inwards to your bedroom
If you like an idea that conflicts with your light switch, they make remote switches. You screw an adaptor into the bulb socket, and place the switch where ever you want.

You can buy a bifold door. In plastic, or wood.. Bifold door is on 6 inches... In won't be in the way....
I used rods and sheets when we bought a new house for all the windows in the house, until we were able to afford blinds. Guests would ask who my decorator was! It works great! I used a rod and pretty fabric for a while in the house I'm living in now, until my son was able to put a bedroom door up. Necessity is the mother of invention!
